On the broader scale of horological history, a decade is about as significant as the jump of an hour on the dial of a complicated watch. It might conceivably have a slightly greater impact of it began with the dawn of the third millennium. Some of the contemporary players on this fascinating watchmaking scene might also consider it more important – especially if they have accompanied the decade-long rise of the magazine you are holding. The two people who will feel most strongly concerned by this milestone are undoubtedly the founders of GMT, created in 2000 – and particularly at a time when the mechanical gearwheels of destiny are guiding them as of January 2010 towards separate modules, albeit still within the same overall movement. Co-founder and director for ten full years of the Great Magazine of Timepieces which is now published in ten different versions worldwide, Pierre Jacques is moving to the other side of the watchmaking stage by taking over the management of Les Ambassadeurs in Geneva. I would personally like to take this opportunity to congratulate him on this new episode in the fascinating saga of fine watchmaking, and above all to thank him most sincerely for these ten wonderful years spent together at the head of GMT. The magazine’s loyal readership can certainly expect to hear of his new activities over the coming decade.
