“Fake watch, fake people”: such is the theme of the spectacular campaign that is to be circulated over the coming months the unusual and symbolic tandem associating the Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry with the Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie. Powerful words that require no illustration. We salute this essential initiative in a world where appearance is becoming more important than being, a world in which the Swiss watch industry needs to close ranks. As a fervent advocate of this magnificent Swiss mechanical expertise since the drawn of the third millennium, GMT intends to support this awareness-raising campaign by providing space in its pages. Since the campaign is not yet available, we will combine actions with words from the very next issues. Orchestrated from Geneva, GMT is now published in ten different countries, on three continents and in four different formats. In close and regular contact with the various industry players whose values we support, GMT comes in standard, XXL and Lady formats, as well as the one you are currently reading. Making its own modest contribution to the efforts of the federation, we banish fake watches and wish the real people of the world a good deal of pleasure with this real magazine.
A GOOD START TO THE YEAR
PIERRE JACQUES & BRICE LECHEVALIER CEO & CHIEF EDITOR
Haute Horlogerie devotees could not have dreamt of a better start to the year. Not only does January 2009 stand for Haute Horlogerie with the SIHH, but they will also have more time to devote to Baselworld two months later. As a Geneva-based international watch magazine, we are delighted to present a preview of the new launches from a majority of the brands exhibiting at the SIHH. Nonetheless, before turning the page of 2008, which was such a special year in many years, we are offering a look over our shoulders at the finest watch events and at some of the most remarkable new launches. The world’s most beautiful industry has many strings to its bow and as humble archers, we invite you through these pages to aim straight at the dial of your choice, whether gem-set or not. And to mix things up a little, turn the magazine over and you’ll find you won’t need to read backwards nor upside down. We wish you an excellent complete, perpetual or annual calendar, according to your personal preference.
