A s summers come and go, none of them are exactly alike. After two years of being somewhat curtailed by the demands of production running at full throttle, the traditional watch industry vacation period should regain its standard length in 2009. Our eighth large-format summer edition also shows some interesting changes compared with the first edition. Some brands have disappeared; others have emerged; others have been transformed; while the most serene among them have continued to develop at their own pace, driven by a long-term vision. Let’s take this opportunity to salute their wisdom and their loyalty to time-honored values. As the hands tick by on the grand dial of the watchmaking scene, there are a number of points of reference that are both important in themselves and eminently worthy of our participation. Only Watch, an operation held every two years, is one such landmark. Such a magnificent display of creativity combined with such great generosity cannot fail to move both hearts and minds. Sincere congratulations are in order for its initiator, who is honoring us with a preface, as are special thanks to the brands supporting this project and which are presented at the end of this issue. Another major event in the fine watchmaking calendar with which GMT is closely associated, the Geneva Watchmaking Grand Prix must rise to a new challenge this autumn in order to continue inspiring dreams among all devotees of exceptional watches despite un unfavorable economic climate. Dreams are indeed featured on each page of this new edition, interpreted in the form of classical, sporty, gem-set, high-tech, traditional or ultra-complicated watches. We venture to believe that you will be touched by this display of horological talent and will appreciate the intrinsic values of these creations.
