There are thirty-six letters in the alphabet, hundreds of words in our daily vocabulary and thousands in more elaborate speech, but there are only twenty-four hours in a day and the latter often proves too short for us to fully enjoy each of these hours. In some countries the figure eight is a lucky number, a symbol of longevity and plenitude, and its harmonious curves are often reflected in the watchmaking world, especially to quantify a limited series. It is also this belief in the meaning of numbers that makes some people divide their days into three eight-hour slices. Some might even be tempted to beg for an eight-day week! As far as we are concerned, we felt it was appropriate to limit our selection of brands presented in the GMT XXL edition to twenty-four, all of them chosen for their upscale approach to the art of watchmaking. You will indeed have a chance to get a closer look at them thanks to the exhibition we are organizing in the Geneva premises of our partner Antiquorum in July. Most of them highly original, some extremely complicated, often downright sublime and in certain cases magnificently gem-set, these creations inspire admiration and respect to match the format of our magazine, which we attempt to maintain at a level of quality worthy of the masterpieces displayed on the next hundred pages. A hundred? To be absolutely accurate, since precision is a must in Haute Horlogerie, and not counting the cover pages, it comprises eight dozen pages in all. We hope that they bring you great pleasure and spiritual enrichment.
