Lange & S\u00f6hne\u201d to a Fine Watchmaking enthusiast\u00a0and see what happens : an instant surge of enthusiasm and interest.\u00a0Since the renewal in the 1990s of the Manufacture founded in 1845 by\u00a0the German watchmaker Ferdinand Adolphe Lange, the name A. Lange &\u00a0S\u00f6hne<\/strong> is synonymous with mechanical precision, high-quality finishing,\u00a0reliability and aesthetic innovation. With more than 50 in-house calibers,\u00a0the Manufacture A. Lange & S\u00f6hne has in just over 25 years earned\u00a0a remarkable position in the circle of watch brands of which a mere mention
\nis enough to put a sparkle in the eye of aficionados. Among its most\u00a0outstanding models is the Lange 1, which has played a key role in its\u00a0ongoing success.<\/p>\n

\"GMT_XXL_CH_2016_ipad-87\"A true style icon since its creation in 1994, the Lange 1<\/strong> is regularly\u00a0reinterpreted over the years. Never exactly the same nor entirely different,\u00a0this horological celebrity undergoes significant modifications, while\u00a0retaining one key element : its distinctive design. The new pink gold edition\u00a0of the Lange 1 presented here is powered by a new hand-wound\u00a0caliber, the 50th in the series of Lange creations. Virtually nothing has\u00a0chanced in the dial layout, the only outwardly visible modification being\u00a0a slightly narrower bezel. It gives an even more generous appeal to\u00a0the watch which has the same 38.5mm case diameter. Beneath the familiar\u00a0dial with its off-centered design, featuring\u00a0an outsize date and power-reserve indicator\u00a0positioned in the upper section, beats handwound\u00a0Caliber L121.1. A number of things have\u00a0changed in this new movement. The outsize\u00a0date jumps precisely at midnight and the force\u00a0required to push it forwards is stored up over a\u00a0period of several hours. In addition, this caliber\u00a0comprises regulating elements consisting\u00a0of a balance wheel with off-centered poising\u00a0weights and a freely oscillating balance-spring\u00a0crafted in-house. The latter continues to oscillate\u00a0at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per\u00a0hour, beneath a hand-engraved balance bridge.\u00a0The twin barrel with its 72-hour power reserve\u00a0has also been maintained.<\/p>\n

\"GMT_XXL_CH_2016_ipad-89\"Another descendant of the original model,\u00a0the Lange 1 Time Zone<\/strong>, combines all the assets\u00a0of the Lange 1 as well as a dual-time display.\u00a0Thanks to its convenient indication of the time\u00a0both at home and in the wearer\u2019s travel time zone, this watch has asserted\u00a0itself as a must-have model for global nomads. In the course of its\u00a0development, the priority was placed on ensuring superb legibility. The\u00a0clearly organized dial enables a unique at-a-glance reading of home time\u00a0as well as travel time appearing on a small subdial. Each of the world\u2019s 24\u00a0time zones is represented by a city on the dedicated ring. Its movement\u00a0endowed with a three-day power reserve is meticulously hand-finished\u00a0and assembled twice.<\/p>\n

This systematic double movement assembly procedure is a specific characteristic\u00a0of the Manufacture A. Lange & S\u00f6hne. A first assembly serves to\u00a0test the movement operation and make the necessary adjustments. The\u00a0components are then entirely disassembled, decorated, cleaned, oiled and\u00a0reassembled. It is only afterwards that the artisans of the Manufacture\u00a0will add the manual finishes whose beauty may then be admired in the\u00a0slightest details through the sapphire crystal caseback.<\/p>\n

The Grande Lange 1<\/strong> is no exception to the rule. In addition to the\u00a0tried and tested reliability and quality of A. Lange & S\u00f6hne watches, this\u00a0all black-clad model adds a touch of remarkable elegance and aesthetic\u00a0refinement. With its slimmer silhouette and an entirely redeveloped inhouse\u00a0Lange caliber, the Grande Lange 1 has become an icon in its own\u00a0right. To achieve the 72-hour power reserve that has forged the reputation\u00a0of the Lange 1, the developers in the Manufacture\u00a0opted for just one barrel. This choice took\u00a0up less space and enabled them to significantly\u00a0reduce the movement thickness. The characteristic\u00a0layout of the Lange 1 dial is reproduced\u00a0to scale in this larger model. A year later, the Grande Lange 1 Moon Phase made its appearance,\u00a0featuring a main dial bearing a remarkable moon-phase display depicting\u00a0the path of the Earth\u2019s satellite with a 99.998 percent degree of precision.\u00a0The Grande Lange 1 Moon Phase \u201cLumen\u201d<\/strong> issued in a 200-piece limited edition\u00a0unites these two watchmaking feats for the very first time. The dial\u00a0of the new model is crafted in blackened silver with large openings, and in black-tinted semi-transparent sapphire crystal. The special coating applied\u00a0to the crystal blocks most of the visible spectrum while allowing ultraviolet\u00a0rays through that reveal the phosphorescence of the luminescent\u00a0pigments in the outsize date mechanism.
