Not only has\u00a0it earned a place of its own on the watchmaking scene with such distinctive\u00a0models as the J12 and the Premi\u00e8re watch, but the Parisian Maison\u00a0has now entered the select circle of brands capable of producing their\u00a0own movements. The name of the first Chanel movement is <strong>Caliber 1<\/strong>,\u00a0and the model housing it is called <strong>Monsieur de Chanel<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Dedicated exclusively to this model, the Caliber 1 with Instant Jumping\u00a0Hour and Retrograde Minute is the first movement entirely designed,\u00a0developed, fine-tuned and assembled by Chanel. This mechanical handwound\u00a0170-part caliber is a movement with integrated complications,\u00a0meaning that they are built into the movement right from its baseplate\u00a0and not added as a module to a base blank.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Crafted in keeping with traditions yet\u00a0highly contemporary, Caliber 1 \u2013 which\u00a0powers a double complication \u2013\u00a0called for a full five years of development.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This technical\u00a0and creative approach is a token of nobility and reliability.\u00a0A mechanical construction accentuated by\u00a0two circular skeleton-worked bridges, Caliber 1\u00a0features a wealth of references to the distinctive\u00a0brand codes, with predominantly black,\u00a0matt and shiny surfaces, as well as the lion \u2013 its\u00a0most masculine emblem \u2013 that sets a seal on all\u00a0in-house Haute Horlogerie movements.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-18910\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gmtmag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/GMT_XXL_CH_2016_ipad-147.jpg\" alt=\"GMT_XXL_CH_2016_ipad-147\" width=\"275\" height=\"479\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.gmtmag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/GMT_XXL_CH_2016_ipad-147.jpg 680w, https:\/\/www.gmtmag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/GMT_XXL_CH_2016_ipad-147-172x300.jpg 172w, https:\/\/www.gmtmag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/GMT_XXL_CH_2016_ipad-147-588x1024.jpg 588w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 275px) 100vw, 275px\" \/>The gem of horological technology represented\u00a0by Caliber 1 deserved a worthy housing.\u00a0An all-new 40 mm-diameter round case was\u00a0thus developed for the Monsieur de Chanel collection.\u00a0Ever since its first steps in the realm\u00a0of prestige watchmaking in 1987, Chanel has\u00a0been working with the Swiss G&amp;F Ch\u00e2telain\u00a0manufacturer renowned for its expertise in the\u00a0production of cases and bracelets, as well as its gemsetting know-how.\u00a0In 1993, Chanel decided to acquire this company based in La Chaux-de-Fonds and which has maintained its autonomy, its entire range of activities\u00a0as well as its name. It is there that all Chanel watches are developed,\u00a0in collaboration with the design studio in Paris.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In design terms, the circle was a deliberate choice by the Chanel creative\u00a0team. This model is stripped of anything superfluous, expressing a\u00a0quest for purity equivalent to a style manifesto. The opaline silver-toned\u00a0dial is protected by a box-type sapphire crystal slightly curved to ensure\u00a0subtle light effects.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On the dial, the position of the two horological\u00a0complications (off-centered jumping hour\u00a0at 6 o\u2019clock and 240\u00b0 retrograde minute sweep),\u00a0as well as the exclusive font of the hour numerals,\u00a0accentuate this deliberate determination to\u00a0stand out from the crowd.
