To mark its 10th anniversary, Manufacture Contemporaine du Temps is providing a fresh interpretation of its unique vision of time display with a new watch, a new principle for presenting the time, and a new case with finely worked detail. Drawing inspiration from 1970s electronic watches, the Dōdekal One is driven by a new Manufacture movement, Caliber D1. The engineers and watchmakers of MCT Watches have used a complex set of cams and carriages to display the hours in the form of segments in the dial center. The 12 generously sized hours numerals appear in turn through a central porthole in a fascinating hybrid mechanical/ digital display.

A closer look

The hours transition is effected by the translation motion of dedicated carriages guided by a circular cam in 2.5 seconds, offering an original and magical sight The minutes are read off by means of a hand placed on a sapphire disk, pointing towards the outside hour-markers and appearing to fly around the central porthole. A governor comparable to those of minute repeater mechanisms serves to ensure optimal management of the energy required for these animations, and thus to literally govern their speed. It contributes to maintaining a 50-hour power reserve for the self-winding D1 movement, which is driven by a gold rotor. The Dōdekal One debuts an elegant cushion-shaped case measuring 43mm along the sides and fitted with an ergonomic back. Its slim satin-brushed bezel tops a case available in two versions. The first is in polished titanium and the second in black DLC-coated titanium with an 18K pink gold caseband. The latter further accentuates the finely crafted lugs of the Dōdekal One case, shaped like twisted leaves.

    More about MCT watch brand

With the Dōdekal One, MCT Watches is continuing its approach of constantly reinventing the display of time and once again proves that there are no limits to performance and mechanical creativity in the field of watchmaking.

[80
