In 2014, thanks to a Danish watch collector, Urban J\u00fcrgensen returned to Danish ownership. Soren Petersen was presented with an Urban J\u00fcrgensen watch in the store that used to be Urban J\u00fcrgensen\u2019s atelier centuries ago. He was looking for the perfect gentleman\u2019s watch and was handed an Urban J\u00fcrgensen Ref. 2 in yellow gold. He was stunned by the sheer level of handcraft and attention to detail the Urban J\u00fcrgensen watch exuded and ended up being the lucky owner of number 23 of this limited edition watch. Just like the former owner Peter Baumberger felt 40 years ago, the idea of acquiring the Urban J\u00fcrgensen company was a challenge too irresistible to pass. On November 14th 2014, after 30 years of foreign ownereship, the company was taken over by a Danish private investment group that included Soren Petersen, who was appointed President and CEO.<\/p>\n

The secrets of enameling, from the recipe of the enamel through to the choice of hairs for the brush and the oils to mix the enamel colors with, have always been jealously guarded, despite being almost completely forgotten along the way after other techniques had come into use. The Urban J\u00fcrgensen perpetual calendars displays a polished blued steel disk featuring two moons and a sprinkling of stars between them. The moon is depicted with pressed-in mirror-finished gold disks, while the stars are punched into the steel and and manually inlaid with gold. It takes 20 different operations to craft such a moon disk. The diamond-finished hands that require numerous hours of fine workmanship are another key feature of Urban J\u00fcrgensen timepieces. The eye of the hour hand is a concentrically polished solid gold insert, held in place by the sheer accuracy of the fit. The hands are polished to a perfect mirror gloss, and thermally blued afterwards. Models with gold cases are fitted with gold and steel hands.<\/p>\n
