Jewelry lovers will say it’s a bracelet, while women who are horologically inclined will proclaim that the new Code Coco is a watch. Both views are legitimate, given that this new Chanel creation does not give precedence to the watch over the bracelet, nor vice-versa, with the two instead merging in a complementary synergy. The innovative Code Coco is however definitely a continuation of the history of the Parisian Maison on the Rue Cambon. The famous 2.55 handbag created by Mademoiselle in 1955 inspires the quilted motif adorning its remarkably smooth and supple bracelet, as well as its clasp. The latter does not however serve to secure the bracelet in a traditional manner, but instead to alternately conceal or reveal the time, in a modern interpretation of the secret watch. Surrounding the rectangular black dial, the clasp slides into a vertical position – closed – to hide the path of the hands located in the lower part, while preserving the view of the diamonds just above it. When rotated to a horizontal position, it reveals the entire watch. Code Coco, which closes in one smooth click, paves the way for a new way of wearing watches.
