C for complicated

The term ‘complicated’ covers an extremely broad spectrum when it comes to watches. At one end lies the utter simplicity of three-hand models, and at the other, the highly technical nature of Grand Complications. The space between these two extremes includes models endowed with so-called “small complications”, and that is exactly the choice made by Baume & Mercier for its three new models in the Clifton collection, equipped with the following small complications : complete calendar, retrograde date and powerreserve display. The complete calendar version displays the days and months through two apertures in the upper part of the dial, as well as the date by means of a blued hand gliding over a matching-colored minute track. A third aperture at 6 o’clock is dedicated to the moon-phase indication, appearing against a dark backdrop making a striking contrast with the immaculately white dial swept over by dauphine-type hours and minutes hands. The midnight blue strap adorned with tone-on-tone stitching adds a touch of color to this relatively complicated, yet delightfully endearing model.
