Christian Bédat : Founder & CEO, Red8world

Since when ?

Since I have had a lot more time! After I sold my company Bédat & Co, from 2007, I took up ski touring quite seriously. Otherwise I have been doing heli-skiing with a group of friends for a number of years.

How did this passion come about ?

I do a lot of endurance sport. The countryside, the mountains and the spirit of freedom encouraged me to do more ski touring, involving up to 80,000 metres of altitude difference per year.

What is your favourite memory ?

Maybe a week we had heli-skiing in Canada, during which we were covered in powder snow and did “mushroom jumps” one after the other (a succession of jumps on accumulations of powder snow which cushion the landing) over three days.

What performance are you most proud of ?

I don’t know whether or not proud is the right word, because I had the privilege of being able to train to get there, but the Patrouille des Glaciers in 2010 remains a great accomplishment. In fact, I have been training since October for 2012.

What is your favourite resort ?

I go to Villars to ski with my family, and in fact I have founded two sports shops there with partners, but I prefer Gstaad when we are with friends, and Chamonix or Zermatt for more demanding skiing.

What is your ultimate dream ?

A week of ski touring in Switzerland, with amazing conditions, and including visits to the most legendary mountain huts.

How does this activity influence your professional life ?

Not at all, because my professional life now gives me lots of spare time. This is a lifestyle choice that I made some years ago – I created Red8world to nurture passion without the pressure.
