Alain Zimmermann : CEO, Baume & Mercier

Since when?

My passion for downhill skiing started when I was just six years old and has increased ever since ! As an adolescent, I was lucky to be able to take competition courses.

How did this passion come about?

This passion grew from the pleasure of skiing in the beginning and then continued through love of the mountains. I originally come from Alsace, so being near the Vosges ski area really helped me to practice !

What is your favourite memory?

Until my first time down a red run with my two little daughters, it was the Sella Ronda circuit in the Dolomites with very good friends, with whom we have enjoyed both the skiing and the magnificent countryside.

What is the performance of which you are the proudest?

Having passed the 150km/h barrier on the speed skiing track at Les Arcs (although still a long way from the 251km/h world record set in 2006 on the same run!).

Your favourite resort?

The 3 Vallées because of its magnificent surroundings, but also Sankt Anton in Austria because of its cosy, traditional aspect.

What would your ultimate dream be?

To taste the pleasures of heli-skiing in the heart of the Canadian mountains and discover virgin territory!

How does this passion influence your professional activity ?

For me, it’s a chance to recharge my batteries, to get a healthy dose of fresh air and to have a good time together. All of this contributes to my having enough energy to attack the week in complete peace following a ski weekend.
