Geneva Art Tour : Art in the Old Town with 1875 Finance

Born of a desire to generate more activity in the old town of Geneva and to highlight its cultural heritage, the Association de l’Art en Vielle-Ville (Association of Art in the Old Town) or AVV for short, was created by Charlotte Mailler in 2007. The event involves 12 gallery owners and art dealers specialising in extremely ancient art, classic art, modern and contemporary art, 20th century decorative arts, photography and contemporary jewellery. The Barbier-Mueller Museum as well as the Geneva Art and History Museum and the Bauer Foundation have also come on board in order to offer a rich and diverse journey suited to all tastes. The Art en Vieille-Ville concept is an attempt to banish the vision of a dull, introverted Geneva by infusing it with vibrant life through rich and prestigious exhibitions. The galleries, united within an authentic and charming location, open their doors to a local and international public. Calvin’s City is thus gradually emerging as actor on the Fine Art scene and becoming a significant pole of attraction for aficionados from the city or from further afield.  Held twice a year, the AVV draws around 3,000 people to the streets of the old town, inviting collectors, curators and keen art enthusiasts to discover the new exhibition of the gallery owners. The approach is aimed at creating a united spirit among the galleries and at rejuvenatingthe old town. A desire to initiate the local and international population into the world of art is another important aspect. It is always intimidating to step into an art gallery, which is why the idea of staging a shared preview makes the experience more accessible and less awe-inspiring. With the help of it’s main sponsor 1875 Finance, the Association hopes to pursue the cultural endeavour thus undertaken by continuing to offer the public a wealth of excellent works.
