It comes as no surprise that Carole Forestier Kasapi has been awarded the Best Watchmaker Prize at the 2012 Geneva Watchmaking Grand Prix. At the helm of the Cartier Haute Horlogerie department since it was created in 2002, she and her now over 200-strong team have accomplished a truly impressive feat by establishing Cartier in just a few years as a force to be reckoned within the field of Fine Watchmaking. Her Think Tank has notably developed 19 calibres in the complications category. Unveiled at the SIHH 2013 alongside a fabulous Mysterious watch, the Rotonde Perpetual Calendar Chronograph in white or pink gold was entirely developed in-house.  Its new self-winding column-wheel chronograph movement is equipped with two barrels in order to improve the torque and the power reserve, with a supple linear resetting lever featuring a design that ensures it does not overly strain the pivots of the hands’ arbors during the resetting process. The subtlety of the construction is also reflected in the display, including a retrograding day of the week hand at 6 o’clock and a pointer-type date mechanism placed around the dial rim.
