Aventicum is a site harbouring countless treasures. The former Roman capital of the Helvetians, now at the heart of the commune of Avenches, Aventicum was located on a strategic travel route in the 1st century AD and witnessed the passage of a number of extremely precious objects, many of which are now vestiges buried deep in the ground. These now visible traces of history have been uncovered in the course of archaeological digs undertaken by scholars, collectors and other curious-minded individuals since the 18th century. The Avenches Roman Museum preserves and exhibits these riches from the distant past. To help people discover or rediscover this heritage,
Christophe Claret is working with NVP3D to create a 3D movie in which the vases, mosaics, works of art, jewellery and sculptures from the Canton of Vaud’s stellar Roman site will be filmed live with no special effects.
For Christophe Claret himself, this endeavour to highlight the importance of Aventicum represents a significant investment in both financial and emotional terms. His own passionate interest in Gallo-Roman history inspires him to seek to make Swiss people aware of the rare legacy beneath their feet. He is also eagerly awaiting a gesture from the Swiss government which he hopes to see provide active support for research and for the work of the museum. The 3D film project also pursues a significant educational purpose, since it will be a useful learning tool for archaeology courses and will provide students with a more well-documented vision of the site. The broadcasting of the film and the immersion experience it provides will also help the general public gain a better grasp of the history of Aventicum.
