It is an accepted fact in the watchmaking arena that Aletta and Peter Stas, founders of Frédérique Constant, are quick learners. Owners of a Runabout boat on Lake Geneva, and sponsors of various meetings for classical motor boats, they have now moved to the next level and are organising their own event for this discipline, the Runabout Challenge. The first event took place at the end of April in Venice, where more than 200 guests will participated in a cultural rally in Runabouts in which the highlight was the discovery of the new limited edition Runabout (see our 4×4 section) in a Venetian palace.
Breitling on the wings of JetMan
The only man to fly with a rigid wing made of carbon-kevlar equipped with four engines, Swiss aviator, Yves Rossy is having a change of watch sponsor and continent for his new exploits. After being launched from a helicopter and stabilising his wing, he went around the Corcovado hill and then headed for the south of Rio de Janeiro at 200 to 300 km/h. Using only his body movements to direct his path and his height (an average of 1200m), he flow over the Ipanema and Copacabana beaches and the famous Sugarloaf Mountain, before opening his parachute and landing with no problem on the beach in front of the Copacabana Palace Hotel, to the delight of Breitling’s assembled guests.
